With so many baby-proofing gadgets on the market, there seems to be an endless amount of things a toddler could bump their little head on. Table Tyke’s silicone placemats come with tableside bumpers, giving parents one less thing to worry about. Berlyn Haughton pitched her product on Shark Tank, but didn’t make a sale. Table Tyke is currently valued at an estimated $1 million.

As seen on the show, Table Tyke was designed with a mother in mind. The product is designed to protect babies from teething accidents and table edge collisions. The material also protects the surface from the mess left behind by babies after feeding.
Berlyn Haughton came up with The Table Tyke after taking care of two mischievous little ones at dinner time. When her children were six months old, they would frequently bang their mouths on the countertops and spill any food or drink placed in front of them.
During this time, Berlyn worked full-time as a Remote Project Manager for AT&T. She has also held similar positions at Direct TV, Erin Condren Design, and most notably, The Walt Disney Company.
Create table type
The mother of two decided to create teething aid placement pads after she realized there were no teething aids available, and since her entire resume was corporate work, she needed a lot of help getting the business off the ground.
Horton contacted a friend’s company to get her design done, and Berlin contacted the owner of Big Bee Little Bee, also a Shark Tank alum, to ask where to find the best silicone product manufacturer.
The aspiring entrepreneur received her first samples in 2020 and launched a website. She also created a TikTok account without expecting much. However, her first video received more than 300,000 views, which was just the beginning of her viral success.
After Shark Tank
Since her appearance on Shark Tank, Horton told the Business Journal that she placed two rush orders with the manufacturer a week after the show aired. She has received hundreds of kind messages from fans and expects the company to generate $200,000 in revenue by 2024. That would be double last year’s $100,000 in sales.
In addition to TheTableTyke.com and its TikTok store, the products are now available on Amazon and Etsy. The regular price for one placemat is $24.99. This baby-proofing tool has 151 customer ratings on Amazon, with an average of 4.3 stars. However, some reviews suggest that the product needs better suction because it can be slippery on certain surfaces.
Berlyn Haughton’s goal for 2022 was to double the company’s annual revenue. But by the end of that year, she had already achieved more than four times her initial goal. The global market for baby-safety products is worth more than $255 billion, according to Precedence Research, with North America being the largest market. Plus, Haughton could sell her products to rehabilitative care facilities, not just parents.
If the patent-pending Table Tyke continues to deliver and launch new products, it could become a household name in the baby products space. Even if the business fails, licensing the product could be a lucrative opportunity.
