If you started watching Shark Tank before it became a household name, then you probably remember Kevin Harrington’s face from the show. He starred on the show for two seasons before being replaced by Mark Cuban. Kevin Harrington’s net worth is estimated to be $400 million. If he were still one of the cast members of the show, he would be the second-richest member behind Cuban.
Early Years
In many ways, Kevin Harrington was born to be an entrepreneur. He grew up in Cincinnati, where his father owned a successful Italian restaurant. Kevin’s father mentored him from an early age, and he went from being a newspaper deliveryman to running a driveway sealant coating business by the time he was 15.
Kevin also dabbled in selling baby high chairs, but it wasn’t until he discovered self-help author Napoleon Hill and motivational speaker Zig Zigler that young Kevin began to flourish as an entrepreneur.
Doing Business
Ironically, Harrington began his media career after filming an infomercial for his business and discovered that when his commercial aired, there was nothing much to watch on the late-night shows on the cable networks.
This led him to become president of National Media, and soon a joint venture with the Home Shopping Network. His success was mesmerizing, with 20 of his businesses generating revenues of more than $100 million.
Original Shark
Harrington became very wealthy, but his real claim to fame was as one of the original members of Shark Tank. Unlike many of the Shark Tank cast members, Harrington had decent returns on his investments, but not a lot of volume, which wasn’t a good look.
According to Lori Greiner, Harrington left after two seasons because the producers didn’t think he was a good fit for the show. Kevin wouldn’t invest in businesses he couldn’t promote through TV ads, which limited his investment range. In the third season, he was replaced by Mark Cuban, a more interesting shark who was willing to put money into riskier ideas.
After Shark Tank
“Shark Tank” brought Harrington a lot of attention, and he also used this opportunity to write books, give motivational speeches and serve as a coach.
His first book was “Act Now! How I Turned an Idea into a Million-Dollar Product,” published in 2009. Harrington’s latest book is similarly titled “The Millionaire’s Coach: Secrets to Success in Business, Relationships, and Beyond.”
The list of companies he has listed would fill an old-fashioned business directory. Entries include Harrington Business Development, On TV Inc., Reliant Interactive, Inc., Pitch Investors, the Electronic Retail Association (ERA), and many more. In total, he has launched more than 100 products with global sales of more than $6 billion.
In hindsight, it’s hard to say what the overall impact of his exit from Shark Tank was. Harington likely would have made more money if he’d stayed on the show, but walking away with a net worth of $400 million isn’t bad by anyone’s standards.
personal life
Harrington, 67, is cagey about his private life. He has been married to his current wife, Crystal Harrington, for some time, and they live in Florida. Crystal has a son from her previous marriage.
