Manisha Koirala is a Nepali Indian actress and model, known primarily for her work in Bollywood films. She was born on 16 August 1970 in Kathmandu, Nepal. Manisha rose to fame for her performances in films like Bombay, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Khamoshi: The Musical and Company, and Dil Se.
Manisha graduated from Kanya College in Varanasi. After that, she settled in New Delhi with the intention of studying secular courses at the Dalkuya Army School. Since childhood, she dreamed of becoming a doctor to serve the people, but modeling career eventually opened the door for her to enter the acting industry. Manisha Koirala’s film career began in 1991 with the film Saudagar directed by Subhash Ghai. At that time, two legendary actors Dilip Kumar and Raj Kumar starred together on the big screen. The film became a hit movie of the year. The film made her a superstar overnight, and with her debut film, she rose to fame and gained huge recognition.
In 1996, Manisha’s other film Agni Sakshi was released, which was a huge success at the Indian box office. In the same year, Manisha Koirala was roped in for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Khamoshi. In 1997, she starred in the film Guptas – The Hidden Truth, starring Kajol and Bobby Deol. The film was a huge success at the Indian box office. This was Manisha Koirala’s first big screen appearance this year in the film Dil Se, directed by Mani Ratnam, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan. The film received a good response from the audience and critics, and she was voted the best actress in the film.
In 2000, Manisha Koirala starred in a multi-starrer film named Lajja. Her performance in the film was very inspiring. After that, she starred in the film Company, which starred Ajay Devgn. She also won the third Filmfare Critics Award for this film. She endured chemotherapy and stayed in a New York hospital for many months. As of May 2, 2017, after a period of four years, she was cured of ovarian cancer. While treating cancer and struggling to survive, Manisha actively participated in raising awareness about the disease. Manisha was born to Sushma Koirala and Prakash Koirala. She tied the knot with a business tycoon named Samrat Dahal.
