Introducing Arber

Dawson hired veteran bioscientist Pam Marrone to design the first prototypes of the Arber line. The founder also hired several suppliers through her CPG relationships. After two years of experimentation, the startup launched in 2021.

From the beginning, Vanessa prioritized wholesale accounts because she realized lawn and garden products were always popular in brick-and-mortar stores. As a Harvard Business School graduate, she was keen to avoid expensive customer acquisition fees.

With her background in private equity and finance, Vanessa was able to raise $3.5 million in funding. Raising the money was relatively easy for her, but the real challenge was finding a way to remain profitable.

After Shark Tank

The company is investing 30% of its marketing budget into boosting its online presence in 2023. This move is significant because it prepares for the sudden spike in website traffic after the series airs on ABC.

The startup should have $3 million to $4 million in revenue in 2024, but it needs to work on improving margins. Based on the money she’s raised from other investors, the $12.5 million valuation seems too high, and there’s nothing she can do about it.

Given Dawson’s experience, it wouldn’t be surprising if a large consumer goods company acquired Arber.
