Abhijeet Sawant is a talented Indian television actor, dubbing singer, host and the front runner of Indian Idol Season 1. He was also the runner-up of the famous singing reality show Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar and finished third in Asian Idol.
Abhijeet Sawant was born on 7th October 1981 in Mumbai, India. He belongs to a Marathi Buddhist family. Growing up in the Shahunagar area of Mumbai, Abhijeet developed a keen interest in music. After graduating from Chetana College of Economics and Commerce, he was keen to work and join the Indian music industry.
In 2005, he won the first season of Indian Idol (a revised version of the Pop Idol format). Abhijeet Sawant’s debut solo album, “Aapka Abhijeet Sawant”, was released on 7 April 2005. In the same year, he also lent his voice to the Bollywood film Aashiq Banaya Aapne, singing the song Marjawaan Mitjawaan.
Abhijeet Sawant participated in the first Asian Idol competition held in Jakarta, Indonesia on December 15 and 16, 2007. He sang the song Everything I Do by Bryan Adams and his own song Junoon. Hadi Mirza of Singapore Idol won the competition and Sawant came in third place. Abhijeet’s second album Junoon was released on July 10, 2007. The title song Junoon topped the Indian music charts.
In 2008, he was also a finalist of the reality show Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar, which was aired on Star Plus. Abhijeet Sawant became the runner-up of this reality show. In 2009, he made his debut in the film Lottery. Abhijeet also made an appearance at the end of the film Tees Maar Khan. He has also appeared in advertisements for Spraymint. He made special appearances as himself in the thriller crime series CID and the romantic drama Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai. Sawant and his spouse Shilpa also participated in the fourth season of the dance reality show Nach Baliye. Abhijeet Sawant co-hosted the fifth season of Indian Idol with Hussain Kuwajerwala.
