Mookie Betts made his debut with the Boston Red Sox on June 29, 2014, recording his first hit against the Yankees.
In August, he hit his first grand slam against Chris Archer and became the youngest Red Sox player in 49 years. Betts homered on the following season's Opening Day against the Philadelphia Phillies and was named the American League Player of the Week on June 21. After finishing the season with a .291 batting average, he was selected to the 2016 MLB All-Star Game and became the first player to reach 200 hits that season.
Betts was named Defensive Player of the Year by Wilson Sporting Goods and was a finalist for the American League MLB Award along with Jose Altuve.
Betts underwent knee surgery in November 2016, but returned for the 2017 season and was once again named to the American League All-Star Game. At season's end, Betts won the Gold Glove Award and finished with a .264 batting average and 101 runs scored.

In 2018, the Boston Globe began comparing Mookie Betts to Mike Trout, a two-time MVP who was considered the best player at the time. The article was published the same day Betts hit three home runs to lead the team over Trout and the Los Angeles Angels. Soon after, he was leading Major League Baseball in batting average, total bases, on-base percentage, runs, doubles and slugging percentage.
When the Red Sox reached the World Series, Betts helped his team defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers for its first World Series victory in a century.
Betts was selected to the 2018 MLB All-Star Game, won a Gold Glove, and was named the American League MVP. This makes him the only player in league history to win a World Series, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger and MVP title in a single season.
The next year, his final season in Boston, he found success, winning his fourth consecutive Gold Glove Award and third Silver Slugger Award.
In 2020, he moved to the Los Angeles Dodgers and reached 1,000 hits in his MLB career in August 2020. After battling broken ribs in 2022, Betts won his fifth Silver Slugger Award and hit his fifth career grand slam in 2023.

In 2011, Mookie Betts signed a $750,000 contract with the Boston Red Sox, but spent his first season playing in the Gulf Coast League. After joining MLB in 2014, he earned $254,000 in his first season, increasing to $515,500 in his second year. By 2017, his annual income reached $950,000.
In 2018, Betts proved his value to the team and signed a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the Red Sox. This year marked his first World Series win, which led to him signing a new one-year, $20.1 million contract in 2019.
By that time, Mookie had been in Major League Baseball for nine years and had earned approximately $33.6 million. In 2020, he signed the most lucrative contract of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers: a 12-year contract worth $365 million, which brought his average annual salary to $30.4 million. At the time, it was the second-most valuable contract in Major League Baseball history, behind only Mike Trout's $426.5 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels.
It is worth mentioning that $115 million of the contract value has been deferred, which means Betts will continue to be paid for 12 years after the contract expires. In other words, if he retires after 2032, the Dodgers will still be paying him an average of less than $10 million per year through 2044. In addition, a $65 million signing bonus will be paid gradually during the contract period.
Betts will earn $68 million from 2021 to 2024 and is expected to earn $22 million this season. To date, Mookie Betts has earned $128.6 million in salary and bonuses during his MLB career.

Encino Building
In October 2020, Mookie Betts spent $7.6 million to build a new 9,415-square-foot, nine-bedroom mansion in Encino, California. In February 2023, he listed the property for sale with an asking price of just under $10 million.
The home struggled to sell, causing the price to drop not once, not twice, but three times. After lowering the asking price to $7 million, Bates sold the property for $6.7 million. Without fees and property taxes, that would be a loss of $900,000, potentially bringing the total loss to $1.5 million to $2 million.
He recently spent $15 million on a new mansion in Encino, which was reportedly still under construction at the time of our research.
