In 2015, Christian signed his first long-term contract with the Miami Marlins, a seven-year contract worth $49.6 million. However, he only played for the Marlins for three years and earned just $5.1 million before being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers. In Milwaukee, Yelich earned $7 million in 2018 and then $9.75 million in 2019. The final two years of the contract were waived so that Yelich could sign a new extension with the Brewers. The contract is structured so that $28 million of the value will be deferred and includes a mutual option for 2029. Under the agreement, the mutual option includes a $6.5 million buyout. If the option is exercised, Yelich would receive deferred funding at an annual rate of $2.33 million from 2031 to 2041 and an additional $2.7 million in 2042. If the option is declined, he would receive $2.5 million annually from 2031 to 2042.
