Deshawn Watson was selected by the Houston Texas in the first round, with the third quarterback trailing Patrick Mahomes and Mitchell Trubisky. Watson signed a four-year contract in May, signing $13 million and receiving a $8.21 million signing bonus. He made his debut on Sept. 10 and threw his first NFL touchdown to the Deandre Hopkins despite the Texans losing.
His first career started on his 22nd birthday, ending with 125 yards, 67 rushing yards and 49 touchdowns. In October, Watson was named AFC offensive player this month and NFL offensive rookie this month. At the end of the season, he became the second Texas quarterback since David Carr was named the PFWA All-Rookie team.

Although the grand jury refused to sue Watson in March 2022, he still faces 22 civil lawsuits, all but one of which are settled by August.
Meanwhile, Watson was traded to Cleveland Browns for five years, while $230 million, the largest contract in NFL history. But he was suspended in six regular season games due to ongoing litigation and it was over.
