early life
Fabio Capello was born on June 18, 1946 in San Canzian d'Isonzo, Italy.
His parents, Evelina Capello and Gerino Capello, are a school teacher and a housewife respectively. His father and uncle were both football players, so it is no surprise that Fabio developed a keen interest in the sport from an early age.
His uncle, Mario Tortul, played for Triestina, Padova and the 1960 Italian national team.
Despite this, young Fabio was spotted by Paulo Mazza (SPAL president) who immediately signed him for £2 million.
Profession
During his time at SPAL, Fabio showed his talent as a midfielder, but due to a knee injury, he had to temporarily bid farewell to his football career.
In 1967, he returned to Roma and his career at his new club flourished thanks to his outstanding performances, helping the team win the championship despite another knee injury. Despite the injury, Fabio performed well and was sold to Juventus in 1970.
Unfortunately, Fabio's career at Juventus got off to a bad start as he criticised head coach Armando Picchi on the day Picchi revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer. The club was not happy with this and he was fined as a result. However, after the bad start, Fabio performed well and became a huge success at the club.
While at Juventus, Fabio won the Scudetto from 1972 to 1975 and helped the team reach the 1973 European Cup final. Despite the success, the club was concerned about Fabio's injuries and traded him to Milan.
He has been head coach for Real Madrid, Roma, AC Milan, Juventus, England and Russia. In 2012, he became head coach of the Russian national team. He has coached top players such as David Beckham, Mario Balotelli, Kaka and many top international players.
After the team suffered several defeats, Fabio was fired and signed with Jiangsu Suning in 2017. The team had a good start, but the good times did not last long, and after a disastrous defeat, Fabio was fired again.
This was the final straw for Fabio and after being sacked, he decided to quit coaching altogether. He has stayed connected to the sport by doing TV commentary and you can check out his official Instagram account to see what he is up to now.
