Girija Shettar is an Indian actress who was born on July 20, 1969 in Essex to a Kannada doctor father and a British mother. She was a mixed-race actress who was known for her stellar performances in the South Indian film industry. She acted in the most popular Telugu film Geethanjali, directed by Maniratnam and released in 1989.

She has acted in many South Indian films, including Maniratnam’s Telugu film Geethanjali and Priyadarshan’s Malayalam film Vandanam.

In 1992, she played the female lead in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar but left the film midway to pursue another commitment; Ayesha Julka replaced her after the first run. In the same year, she appeared in the film Hrudayanjali directed by A. Raghuram.

Shettar Originally from Ossett, Essex, Girija Shettar trained at Barathana from the age of 18 before completing a PhD thesis in holistic yoga philosophy and Indian spiritual psychology at Cardiff University.

Girjia appears on the cover of India’s Screen magazine on June 30, 1989. In 2002, Geethanjali was one of five films screened by the British Film Institute during a retrospective of Mani Ratnam’s work. These films were chosen as examples of strong heroine roles in Indian cinema.
