early life
Joseph Clifford Montana Jr was born on June 11, 1956 in New Eagle, Pennsylvania, USA.
His parents Theresa Marie Bavuso and senior Joseph Clifford Montana sent him to Waverly Elementary School, where he was later in the senior schools of Finleyville Junior High School and Ringgold High School.
Joe's outstanding basketball talent led “North Carolina” to provide him with basketball scholarships in his final year. But it was Joe's impressive skills on the high school football team that caught the attention of “Notre Dame” who ended up being offered a scholarship he accepted.
In 1974, Montana competed in the freshman team competition at Notre Dame. The talented athlete beat North Carolina in 1975 to Dan Devine.
After a shoulder injury, Montana missed the first two games of the 1977 season before facing Purdue. He was appointed as the starting quarterback after the team succeeded in the final game of the season. He was crucial to the team's victory over the Pete Panthers in 1978, and he did his best against Houston the following year.
Montana’s memory in the game inspired the movie’s fate for seven and a half minutes.
Career Overview
After earning a fruitful job at Notre Dame, he earned a degree in Business Administration and Marketing, which would be so helpful after he quits football. He was selected by the San Francisco 49ers and ranked 82nd in the 1979 NFL Draft. Despite the “San Francisco 49ers” suffered some losses in the following season, Montana experienced 1,795 yards and 15 touchdowns.
In 1981, the club met the “Cincinnati Bengals” in “Super Bowl XVI” and the talented quarterback once again performed well to help the team win the game. After several wins, Montana made his second straight “Pro ball” trip in 1984, where he beat the “Chicago Bears” and the “New York Giants.” When they played Dolphins in Super Bowl XIX, the team set the record for the most passing yards in a single game.
The team was defeated by the “New York Giants” in the 1985 NFC wildcard game, and Joe was injured the following year and had to undergo surgery. His career peaked in 1987, when he completed 31 touchdown passes in just 13 games and set an NFL record to complete 3054 yards without incomplete passes.
In 1988, the club beat the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears in the playoffs to win a second shot at Super Bowl XXIII.
He moved to the Kansas City Chiefs in 1993 after signing a three-year contract, but suffered repeated injuries that affected his game time. Even so, after his injury, he played in only two games in 1994 and announced his retirement in April 1995.

Montana made only $70,000 in 1980 and $85,000 in 1981. If we were to adjust for inflation, that would result in $266,000 and $293,000, respectively.
In 1984, Montana signed a $6.3 million six-year extension with the 49ers. He made $1.15 million for that year, and if inflation is adjusted, it would be equivalent to $3.5 million today. This also means his $6.3 million contract may be close to $18 million today.
In 1990, Montana signed a four-year contract with 49 people worth $13 million. He made $4.5 million in the year, $3.5 million in 1991 and $3 million in 1992.

Joe Montana made $25.6 million in his NFL career. He makes a lot more money from venture capital trading than his football skills. Prior to publication, he was one of the first investors in Silicon Valley startup Pinterest.
Montana is the first of many celebrities, such as Ashton Kutcher, Kevin Durant and Serena Williams launch their own investment funds.
How does Joe Montana spend money?
After leaving the NFL, Montana used his Bay Area business link network to start a venture capitalist career. He is currently a general partner and co-founder of venture capital firm Liquid2 Ventures. Joe and Liquid2 have successfully invested in several businesses, including Pinterest, Airbnb, Robinhood and Gitlab.
GitLab is Liquid2's most successful investment to date, after receiving $100,000 from Joe and his partners in 2015 – the company at the time had a market value of $12 million. In October 2021, Gitlab was released at the end of its first trading day with a market capitalization of US$15 billion. This means that the $100,000 investment of Liquid2 is worth more than $63 million and will increase as the company's bright future.
Montana sold his 500-acre estate in Calistoga, California, for sale in 2009 for $49 million. The property features olive groves, a Bocce Court, a basketball court, a spa, a shooting range, horses, guest house, swimming pool, swimming pool, private pond and dormitory.
The Montana family lives primarily outside Los Angeles and regards the property as their vacation home. In January 2012, he lowered the price to $35 million. In July 2019, he listed it again for $28.9 million and relisted it in June 2021 for $24.5 million.
Personal life
In 1974, Montana married his high school lover Kim Moses, but the marriage lasted only two years later before deciding to get married. His second marriage to Cass Castillo occurred in 1981, but the alliance failed and three years later the couple filed for divorce.
In 1985, he married actress Jennifer Wallace in his third marriage, and they were still married and had four children: Alexandra Whitney, Elizabeth Jean, Nathaniel “Nate” Nate Joseph and Nicholas Alexander.
Joe teamed up with Beringer winemaker Ed Sbragia to create his own wine under the label Montagia and has a stable wine with his favorite horse nicknamed the cool cat, with many of them.
