John Abraham is an Indian model, actor, and producer who currently has a net worth of $34 million. Born on 17th December 1972 in Bombay, India (present-day Mumbai), his early career was in the modeling industry, but he’s best known as an actor and film producer in Hindi-language cinema. He bagged his first film acting role in Jism in 2003, which earned him a nomination for the Filmfare Best Debut Award. The following year, he played Kabir in Dhoom and has been successful in Hindi cinema ever since, with films such as Water (2005), Taxi No. 9211 (2006), Shootout in Wadala (2013) and Satyameva Jayate (2018), Parmanu (2019) and Batla House (2019) in his filmography.
He was born in Mumbai to a Parsi mother – Firoza Irani, a charity worker – and Malayali father, Abraham John, an architect. Abraham’s Parsi name is Farhan, but his father being a Christian, named him John. He has a younger brother named Alan – also an architect, and a sister, Susy Matthew, a successful author. John attended the Bombay Scottish School and later Jai Hind College, the University of Mumbai before graduating from NMIMS with an MBA.
John Abraham’s modeling career began when he appeared in a music video for Surma by Punjabi Singer Jazzy B. In 1999, he won the Gladrags Manhunt Contest. He went to the Philippines to participate in the International Manhunt Contest where he placed second. His modeling work took him to Hong Kong, London, and New York City, and he appeared in a number of adverts and music videos. However, he had aspirations to become an actor and enrolled at the Kishore Namit Kapoor acting institute to study acting alongside modeling assignments.
His acting debut Jism grossed 13,250,000 Rs ($180,000), making it a hit in India. He and his co-star Bipasha Basu began dating during filming and were together from 2002 until 2011, dubbed a “super couple” in the Indian media. He is now married to Priya Runchal, a financial analyst and investment banker from the United States. They met in Mumbai in 2010 and married in Los Angeles on 3rd January 2014. Priya Runchal has a law degree from the University of California and studied for an MBA in London. She began her career at International Finance Corporation, which is a branch of the World Bank.
His first big commercial success came in 2016 with the release of Dishoom, which Abraham starred in opposite Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez. The film brought in over Rs. 100 Crores ($13.6 million). That same year, Force 2 was released, overtaking Dishoom as Abraham’s highest-opening film to date. It garnered Rs. 20 Crore ($2.7 million) in its first weekend and close to Rs. 58 Crore (47.9 million) worldwide. In 2018 he starred in Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran and Satyameva Jayate. Action thrillers Romeo Akbar Walter and Balta House were his 2019 successes.
In 2012, Abraham made his debut as a film producer on the critically acclaimed Vicky Donor. Since then, he has produced films such as Madras Cafe (2013), Savita Damodar Paranjpe, and Sadar & Granson for Netflix. His production company is called JA Entertainment and has won National Film Awards for its work.
John Abraham makes a significant part of his income from brand endorsements, including Garnier Men, Reebok, and Yamaha. He charges a reported Rs. 9 Crore ($1.2 million) for brand endorsements. He’s also the owner of several businesses, including Fat Abraham Burger in New Dehli, the Indian Super League football team NorthEast United FC and Pure Wonder Vodka.
