John McEnroe was born on February 16, 1959 in Wiesbaden, West Germany.
His father served at Air Force Base in Wiesbaden and his mother was a surgical nurse.
In 1960, the family left Europe and returned to the United States to establish their own father in Douglaston, Queens, New York, and found a job.
At the age of nine, McEnroe's parents registered him as the “East Lawn Tennis Association” and he quickly began to compete in local competitions.
