Since his rise to stardom, Depp has starred in several blockbusters such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands, and Rango to name a few.
Depp, who was thought to be worth over $600 million at the peak of his career, has shied away from the spotlight in recent years, especially during a lengthy court battle in 2022 with his ex-wife Amber Heard which ended in his favor.
While he hasn’t taken any major roles as of 2023, he did star in the drama romance, Jeanne du Barry, which received mixed reviews and only made a reported $12.8 million at the box office, almost half the initial $22.4 million budget.

Johnny Deep Movie Earnings
With the millions of fans he’s garnered over the years thanks to his talented acting in different genres, it’s only normal that his movies would command the level of success they do.
His movies have made more than $8.2 billion at the box office worldwide, ranking him as the 3rd actor with the highest box office revenue.
Court documents from a lawsuit against his former business managers revealed that Depp has made more than $650 million in movie salaries and endorsements between 2003 and 2016.
In 2012 alone, it’s estimated he made $75 million, which was largely attributed to the success of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, released in 2011. He earned a reported $55 million from that movie, with around $20 million of that figure coming from bonuses.
He was also the highest-paid actor for two consecutive years in 2007 and 2008, earning $92 million and $72 million respectively during those years. In 2010, he made $75 million, reclaiming that title after losing it the previous year to American Actor Harrison Ford, who made $65 million in 2009.
Johnny Depp Lawsuit and Legal Trouble
Johnny Depp has kept most of his personal affairs private, but one incident that shed light on his chaotic marital life was his most recent legal battle with his ex-wife, Amber Heard. Depp, who initially sued Heard in 2019 for defamation, claimed that an article the latter had written for the Washington Post accusing him of abuse was false, and had negatively impacted Depp’s reputation and livelihood.
This was supported by the fact that several projects Depp was working on came to a halt, which included his recast in the sixth sequel of Pirates of the Caribbean. This led to the actor announcing that he would no longer be working with the production company for acting on baseless accusations.
Depp also accused Heard of domestic abuse, claiming that he was the victim of physical and emotional abuse, which was backed up by evidence published by his lawyers, which included audio proof.
Heard would later counter-sue Depp in 2020, and the trial would begin two years later in Virginia on April 11, 2022. Only 19 days later on June 1, 2022, the jury ruled in Depp’s favor, awarding him with $15 million, later reduced to $10.35 million due to the state punitive damages cap.
The jury would also award Amber with $2 million for damages, which resulted in further negotiations between Depp and Heard. In December 2022, the two would reach a settlement in which Heard paid Depp $1 million that he pledged to charity.
Johnny Depp Lifestyle
While it’s no secret that most celebrities lead an extravagant life, it was revealed in court documents after Depp sued his finance management company that he lived an over-the-top lifestyle that required more than $2 million a month to sustain.
In a year, the actor paid $3.6 million to maintain a 40-person full-time staff that attended to his basic needs and estate upkeep. He spent an additional monthly $200,000 to cover his travel expenses, accompanied by $150,000 a month on bodyguards, and $30,000 a month on wine.
That is only a fraction of what he spends, as he’s also dropped hundreds of millions on real estate, a luxurious car collection, as well as countless art pieces worth millions.
