early life
LaVar RaShad Arrington was born on June 30, 1978, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the United States.
He played basketball and football at North Hills High School in Pittsburgh, playing as a running back and linebacker.
After his senior year of high school, LaVar won several awards including the USA Today Award, Pennsylvania Player of the Year, Gatorade Player of the Year, the Bobby Dodd National High School Guard of the Year Award, and the 1996 Parade National Player of the Year Award.
He gained 4,357 yards on 711 carries and 72 touchdowns, becoming just the second player in Pennsylvania Class 4-A history to surpass 4,000 career rushing yards.
Arlington participated in the 1997 Big 33 Football Classic, an annual contest between the top high school football players from Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Georgetown, UMass and North Carolina basketball teams also showed interest in him due to his height and agility.
Arrington was a talented sprinter who competed on the school’s track and field team and set personal bests in the 100 and 200 meters. An all-around athlete, he achieved high jumps of 1.96 meters and long jumps of 6.76 meters.

While attending Penn State from 1997 to 1999, Arrington played for the Penn State Nittany Lions under coach Joe Paterno.
Arrington won several awards during his college career, including the Lambert Award, Dick Butkus Award, and Chuck Bednarik Award in 1999. In 1998, he was named a first-team All-American, and in 1999, he was a unanimous All-American.
Arrington was also selected as the Big Ten Player of the Year but finished only eighth in the 1999 Heisman Trophy voting.
After his junior year, he left Penn State and signed up for the NFL draft.
Arrington played for the Washington Redskins from 2000 to 2005 after being selected second overall in the 2000 NFL Draft.
He joins Albert Heinsworth, Kirk Cousins, Alex Smith and other top athletes who played for the Redskins. Conflicts with coaches Joe Gibbs and Greg Williams and knee problems cost Arrington his final two seasons with the Redskins.
Unfortunately, he ruptured his Achilles tendon in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys and had to miss the rest of the season, which led to the New York Giants releasing him on February 12, 2007.
Bad luck seemed to always be with Arlington, and on June 18, 2007, he was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in suburban Maryland.
Arrington survived the accident but suffered a shattered right forearm, a fractured lower vertebrae and severe leg injuries.
He also received two summonses for driving without a valid license and failing to control speed to prevent a collision.
His retirement was confirmed by a report in the New York Daily News on September 23, 2007.

NFL Salaries
In 2000, LaVar Arrington signed a seven-year, $13.25 million rookie contract with the Washington Redskins and received a $10.75 million signing bonus, which brought his earnings to $10.9 million in his first season in the NFL.
