Nana Patekar is a famous Indian film actor, philanthropist, film producer, writer, who mainly appears in Marathi and Hindi films. He was born on January 1, 1951 in Murud-Janjira Fort, India. Nana Patekar’s father, Dhankar Patekar, was a professional painter, and his mother, Sangayna Patekar, was a housewife.
Nana is a graduate of Sir JJ College of Applied Arts in Mumbai. During his college years, he was very keen on inter-school drama. After successfully completing his graduation degree, he acted in several Bollywood films with some of the most famous Bollywood film directors. Nana Patekar is married to Neelakanti Patekar and they have a son named Malhar Patekar.
Although he starred in films like Salaam Bombay and Mohre, he came to the attention of much of the Bollywood film industry and audiences for his role as a villain in the 1989 film Parinda. Nana Patekar won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role. He also won the Filmfare Award for Best Villain in 1992 for the film Angaar.
Nana Patekar is widely recognized for his role as a police officer in the film Ab Tak Chappan. In 1994, Nana won the National Film Audience Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film Krantiveer. He also won the Star Screen Award and the Best Actor Award.
Nana Patekar has played a wide range of roles in films. He occasionally plays villains but has also played heroes in several films. He has also played a truant and wife beater in the film Agni Sakshi, a gambler in Krantiveer, a deaf-mute father in Khamoshi: The Musical, and a schizophrenic in Wajood.
Throughout his career, Nana was considered the archetype of the ‘angry young man’ character, a role he was perfect for and delivered as a forerunner of Mithun Chakraborty and Amitabh Bachchan.
Nana Patekar became a film director through the film Prahaar: The Final Attack, co-starring Madhuri Dixit. His other films as an actor include Bluff Master, Hu Tu Tu, Apaharan, Wajood, Aanch and Yeshwant.
