True Collins is a famous American actress and indie pop singer. She is best known for her role as Julie in the MTV original high school comedy Awkward from 2011 to 2016. At the age of 15, she studied at the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan.
Tru studied classical piano with Elaine Kudo of the American Ballet Theatre. She entered college on a songwriting scholarship from Universal Pictures and attended New York University and the New School in New York.

In 2014, Tru Collins guest-starred in the period drama Masters of Sex (TV), opposite Michael Sheen, and had a starring role in the independent film Spring Awakening, set in the 1800s supporting role. From seasons two to five, she had a recurring role as mean girl Julie on MTV’s Awkward. She then starred in the TV series Insecure (2017) alongside Hayley Kiyoko and in another TV series, Vader (2018).
As a singer, Tru collaborated with Grammy Award-winning soul singer Latrice Verrett and opened for Aretha Franklin at the Nokia Times Square Theater in 2009. In 2010, she joined Atlantic Records’ multi-platinum rock band Trans-Siberian Orchestra as lead vocalist.
She has toured stages across North America and supported bands performing live acoustic guitar/vocal solos on many rock radio stations. Also in 2010, TSO peaked at number 12 on the US Arena Tour Billboard chart, beating out Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber. The tour grossed $47,395,108 and sold out 51 venues.
Tru Collins has co-written songs with quite a few notable names, including Rostrum Records artist Vali and Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J. Her work has appeared on various records and television soundtracks. She released her first full-length play “The Story of a Gypsy Child” (2015) and the music video for her first single “Party Dress”.
