Jaya Bachchan is a famous Indian film actress and politician. She was born on 9 April 1948 in Jabalpur, India. Her father, Talon Kumar Bhaduri, was a writer, stage artist and journalist, while her mother, Indira Bhaduri, was a housewife. Jaya Bachchan graduated from St. Joseph’s Convent Higher Secondary School, Bhopal, where she was an outstanding student. During the Republic Day celebrations in 1966, she was awarded the All India Best NCC Cadet Award.
She started her acting career at the age of 15 with the Bengali film Mahanagar. After the release of the film Guddi, she became an actress in Bollywood. Jaya Bachchan went on to act in many Hindi films including blockbusters like Uphaar, Jawani Diwani, Abhimaan, Anamika, Bawarchi, Sholay, Zanjeer and Chupke Chupke, to name a few. Her acting career lasted from 1963 to 1981. Jaya Bachchan also wrote the screenplay for Shahenshah.
She married legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan and later gave birth to Abhishek Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan. Amitabh Bachchan’s parents are Hindu and Sikh, specifically Tej and Harivansh Rai Srivastav, codenamed Bachchan. After 1981, Jaya left the showbiz industry. From then on, her marital life began to face major turmoil, especially when Amitabh’s affair with famous Bollywood actress Rekha was exposed. At that time, their life was interrupted when Amitabh was beaten by Puneet Issar during the filming of the movie Coolie and almost lost his life.
The Bachchan family suffered another setback in 2005 when her asthmatic husband was admitted to Lilavati Hospital with severe abdominal pain. Jaya’s husband later recovered.
Currently, she continues to rule Bollywood with her on-screen presence along with her husband Abhishek and son Abhishek and wife Aishwarya Rai. Jaya Bachchan has also received numerous awards for her talent in Bollywood.
