Farah Khan, also known as Farah Khan Kund, is a renowned Indian film director, actor, film producer, choreographer and dancer, known for choreographing dances in numerous Indian films. Farah has choreographed dance moves for more than 100 songs in more than 80 Indian films, and won the 6th Indian Film Award for Best Choreography and the Indian National Film Award for Best Choreography. In addition, she has worked on global projects such as Monsoon Wedding, Marigold: An Indian Adventure, Mumbai Dreams, and Chinese films Love Without End and Kung Fu Yoga, and has been nominated for the Golden Horse and Tony Awards. She has since become a film producer as well, and won the Indian Film Award for Best Director for her debut film Main Hoon Na.
Farah Khan was born on January 9, 1965 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Her father’s name is Kamran Khan, who was a stuntman who later became a film producer. Her mother’s name is Menaka Irani, who is the younger sister of former child stars Daisy Irani and Honey Irani. Therefore, Farah Khan is the cousin of film stars Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar. She has a brother named Sajid Khan, who is an actor, film director, and comedian.
Although Farah’s father was a Muslim, her mother was a Zoroastrian and belonged to the Parsi ethnic group. Her parents separated when Farah was still a child. One underlying reason was lack of money, the other was religion. Kamran Khan was originally very wealthy and successful, and, when his sister-in-law Honey Irani married the impoverished lyricist Javed Akhtar, the newlyweds approached Kamran for support and he provided them with an apartment without paying any rent. However, Kamran later began to lose money badly as his film career failed; his marriage also became distorted as a result. As a result, Farah Khan rarely saw her father while growing up. As neither of her parents had money left, Farah and Sajid had to move between different houses.
On December 9, 2004, Farah Khan married Shirish Kunder, her co-editor of the film Main Hoon Na. Since then, the couple has been working together in each other’s films such as Om Shanti Om, Jaan-E-Mann and Tees Maar Khan. In 2008, Farah Khan gave birth to triplets, two daughters and a son.
