Rajesh Khanna is a legendary Indian film actor, film producer and politician. He has acted in more than 17 short and feature films. He has won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor three times and has been nominated more than 14 times; Rajesh Khanna has also won the BFJA Award for Best Actor four times and has been nominated 25 times. In 2005, Rajesh Khanna was awarded the Filmfare Award for Lifetime Achievement. He is recognized as “Indian Cinema’s Original Superstar”.
Rajesh Khanna was born on December 29, 1942 in Amritsar, Punjab, India, and was adopted and raised by his parents’ relatives. He entered St. Sebastian’s Goa High School. While in school, Rajesh Khanna developed a keen interest in drama and participated in many drama performances in school. In the early 1960s, as a newcomer, he tried hard to get work in the film and theater fields. In March 1973, Rajesh Khanna married the famous actress Dimple Kapadia and has two daughters.
Rajesh Khanna made his debut in the film Aakhri Khat in 1966. He is known for his performances in films like Baharon Ke Sapne, Aurat, Ittefaq, Aradhana and Doli. In 1971, the film Haathi Mere Saathi became his super hit and the highest grossing film of its time. In 1991, he received the Special Filmfare Award for playing the solo lead in 101 films. Rajesh has 22 Silver Jubilee hits and 35 Golden Jubilee hits.
Rajesh Khanna was also an active MP of the Congress Party. In 2012, he shot his first and last television commercial, which attracted people’s attention. In June 2012, it was reported that Rajesh Khanna’s health had been deteriorating for a long time and he was admitted to the hospital several times due to health problems.
